 Hayden was forced to grow up when she embarked on her first trip abroad without her mother. She flew to Europe last year to promote the hit TV show -Heroes -with her castmates. "It was the first time that my mother hasn't travelled with me and we went to Munich, Paris and London... It was such a different experience, being on your own and it changed me dramatically. On the I Love You Beth Cooper film, some pictures of Hayden on the filming set on April 15th this year.  Hayden has signed up to play a brunette in a new movie, in a desperate bid to avoid being typecast as an all-American blonde. She recently completed filming Fireflies In The Garden, about a dysfunctional family in which a dark-haired Panettiere stars opposite Julia Roberts. And she is hoping the dramatic role and darker locks will be enough to convince audiences of her versatility. She says, "I wanted to kill the cheerleader image, so I changed my hair colour and wore no make-up... It's been very hard for me in the past to have people see me in any other way. They can be very narrow-minded."

 Hayden is set to follow in the footsteps of former U.S. vice president Al Gore by releasing a film modelled after his Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth. She made waves last November (2007) when she took part in a protest against the slaughtering of dolphins in the historic whaling town of Taiji, Japan. Now one of her main priorities is an informative movie about the whaling industry, which she is convinced will be as groundbreaking as Gore's global warming expose.  Hayden was such a successful child actor, she was "tortured" by school bullies. The Heroes actress - who began her career aged eight months - admits she was targetted by bullies over jealousy. But the she is pleased she was the victim. She says, "At school I was teased a lot because I was an actor. They used to be awful. I went through a big period where I was tortured at school. Absolutely ripped apart." she confeses "It was very hard for me but I think it made me a stronger person and I'm glad that it happened."
